Maine Public Adjuster for Nor’easters, Ice Dams, and Coastal Wind
A Portland ice dam is not a seasonal camp that froze in February. A free review before you accept the carrier’s number.

Ice on the eave is not surge at the shore.
Maine losses pile up in winter and again when a nor’easter stacks wind against the coast. Those are not the same scope, and a summer plumbing leak is a third file. Maine policyholders hire American Financial Claims. We do not take the assignment from the carrier. Call (239) 444-8101 for a free claim review before you accept an offer or give a recorded statement. You still report the loss when the policy tells you to. The phone call does not replace notice, and it does not start a fee.
The coast from Portland south.
Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Westbrook, Biddeford, Saco, and Brunswick take coastal wind, wind-driven rain, and older wood-frame houses that were not built as production suburbs. A nor’easter can lift shingles and then push rain into the attic. Rising water and storm surge are often a different coverage question, sometimes excluded, sometimes on a separate flood form. We do not dump both into one cause. Photos of the waterline versus the roof opening are the difference. Wharves, inns, and small commercial buildings along this shore need a scope a house estimate will not carry. See wind, roof, and commercial claims.
Ice dams are the winter version of the same towns. Heat leaks, a dam at the eave, and water that backs under the shingles and stains a top-floor ceiling. Carriers call that wear. Wear can be real. So can a dam that formed in one storm. The photos of the eave, the insulation, and the stain path are what we compare with the letter. That is not a Florida hurricane file and it is not a hail file.
Interior Maine, camps, and frozen lines.
Augusta and Bangor see weight of snow, ice, and roofs on older housing away from the immediate shore. Lewiston and Auburn add rentals and plumbing losses in mill-town buildings, where the owner’s policy and a tenant’s interest get tangled. A burst pipe in a house someone left at 55 degrees is a frequent February file. Document when the heat failed, what ran, and the dry-out — not only the cracked fitting. Seasonal camps and second homes make vacancy wording matter. We read that clause instead of guessing. See plumbing and water damage. If the check pays to paint and not to open the wet wall, that belongs with underpaid claims. A denial is the carrier’s position, not automatically the end of the form. We do not promise a revised number.
The Maine credential we publish.
The individual number listed for Maine on our licensing page is ADN545289. American Financial Claims does not publish a Maine firm license. We confirm status and whether the file can be accepted before representation. The site is not a live check with the Bureau of Insurance. Florida firm license G288962 is our Florida firm credential, not a Maine one. Cities below are service areas. They are not storefronts. The firm’s published office is in Miami’s Brickell district.
What the review needs
Declarations page, the date the ice, wind, or leak showed up, attic and eave photos, any plumber or tarp invoice, and the carrier estimate or denial. If the building was unoccupied, say for how long. Any fee is in writing before you sign. Looking is free. We do not have a client-authorized Maine recovery on the results page. Those cases are other states and are not a forecast for an ice dam or a coastal roof. For legal deadlines, talk with a Maine-licensed attorney. Your policy’s notice language still controls.

Maine FAQ
Questions people ask before hiring.
General information, not legal advice. A free review does not create a fee.
Is an ice dam the same claim as coastal flooding?
No. An ice dam backs meltwater under shingles. Coastal surge or rising water is often excluded or written on another form. Call (239) 444-8101 and describe which water you have. The review is free and does not replace notice.
We closed the camp and came back to a burst pipe. Can you look?
Yes, as a plumbing and water file. Vacancy wording in the policy can matter, so bring the declarations page and the dates the house was empty. We will not assume coverage.
The carrier called the roof wear and tear. Is that final?
It is their position. Photos of the opening, the eave, and the ceiling path are what we set next to the policy. A free review does not promise a different payment.
